I have always wanted to start yoga and a couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to see a post from my local Fleet Feet Sports store about their weekly yoga classes. Since it the beginning of a new year I always try to start at least one new thing. So I thought, why not jump at the chance to try yoga with some ladies that I know. The biggest thing in the past that kept me from starting yoga was always the idea of being in a room full of people I didn't know, doing moves that felt and looked just wrong. If you've never had the pleasure of meeting me you don't know that I can be a little shy and awkward at first. The first week I went, I convinced my old high school teammate to come to the class with me, and to my surprise I actually really enjoyed it.
The last time I "tried" yoga was back in college. Now I say it like this because well, I was made to get up in the morning and get it done with my teammates and coach. It wasn't very fun getting up when I didn't want to and sit through something I didn't want to be apart of. Half the time I was sleepy from a night of studying and would be upset if anyone tried to talk to me. Now I'm excited about getting up for a 7am class that will help me connect with myself, and get me excited about the rest of my day ahead. I have started to get into it so much I took my instructors advice and bought the Manduka Cork block to help me with some of the poses we do in class. I have also looked into some other classes to add to my week. If you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments.
