Take Your Life Off Auto Pilot
The other day my best friend and I were talking about everyday life, when the subject of going though the motions came up. We both agreed that we put ourselves on auto pilot way to much. I talked about being in the moment recently in my Don't Lie To Yourself blog post. In that post I was mainly talking about running and being true to yourself, but touched on doing everything the right way, while enjoying the process.
Being in auto pilot is the worst thing you can be in. I've learned that we try to please everyone in our lives, all while trying to please ourselves at the same time. I've done this plenty of times in my life so far and it's time to put a stop to it. Auto pilot has kept me from truly accomplishing everything I want, because I get to the point where I just want to go through the motions. This causes me to go through my day doing things the simple way, and all of a sudden the goals I set in the beginning of the month have went out the window. So it's finally time to take auto pilot of and let my creative mind, outgoing personality, and strong willed mindset have its time to shine.
Let me know how you are going to take your life off auto pilot. My top 3 ways are:
- Don't sweat the small stuff. I will go back and definitely read this book. But I at times lose my mind over the smallest thing and I put myself on auto pilot to avoid the real problem.
- Enjoy the process. I adopted this motto back in 2012-13 for my track season and it worked. So I want to apply it to my life.
- Detach from the world. Sometimes I'm just to plugged in and need to step back and enjoy the great weather, friends, and just myself.
